I would like to know the price of a bus trip from Porgera to Mr Hagen
20 kina (about A$8) each way in a 24 seater Toyota bus (PMV as they're called). They leave when they're full not to a specific timetable. BE WARNED! You would have to be very adventurous or plain crazy to do this. PMV drivers are fast and dangerous as they like to do two trips a day (there and back) to make money for the PMV owner. Some will even try three and there are plenty of instances of them driving off the windy rough mountain roads due to tiredness. As a non-local you are at risk of robbery and if female also at risk of rape. Police are infrequent and frankly the area is lawless although of course good people are there also. In a 4wd each leg of the journey takes 6 hours, assuming no tribal fighting or road blockage from landslips. PMV's are quicker.
